The Lunenburg Fish Project was commissioned by the Town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia in 2002. At first the sentiment was to simply replace the flower baskets decorating the town utility poles with something low maintenance. We were able to go a step further. In collaborative discussions with the Town, the idea grew into a meaningful homage to those beings who, through generations of fishing, provided the economic foundation of Lunenburg and are now nearly extinct. It is at once a jubilant and poignant reminder of our interplay with the environment and, with its layers of meaning combined with fine craftsmanship, an excellent example of effective public art.
